During this season of giving, many people seek ways to make a positive impact, and Trilogy Members are no different. There are lots of urgent needs everywhere, but some people especially want to help those in the community in which they live. Doing so has all kinds of tangible and intangible benefits for the community and its citizens – including for you. Particularly as you consider entering this post-professional, post-child-raising stage of transition, volunteering alongside others is a wonderful way to get to know people and develop a sense of purpose and satisfaction. Supporting a cause and helping others is good for the heart, the soul, and your community!
If this interests you but you don’t know where to start, here are three places to begin your search once you move to Trilogy:
Online – There are a variety of websites that can help you find volunteer opportunities that match your interests and the most pressing needs in your community. Check out VolunteerMatch.org, which allows you to search by zip code and narrow down your skills and interests in many different cause areas – from veterans to children, disaster relief to animals. You can even search for volunteer opportunities that are great for adults age 55 and older. HandsOn partners with community service organizations and government agencies and makes it easy for people to peruse a monthly volunteer calendar for one-off projects, sign up for long-term volunteer programs, or lend a hand on one of several service days per year. HandsOn runs websites in many major cities, including Phoenix, Orlando, Charlotte, the San Francisco Bay Area, and other cities near Trilogy communities.
Through Shea Homes and Trilogy – Several times throughout the year, Shea Homes and Trilogy mobilize our communities across the country to support an important national cause. This past summer, we launched the Shea Homes and Trilogy Summer Food Drive, inviting Members everywhere to collect non-perishable food items for those in need in their areas, and we hosted many fun events to rouse participation. Trilogy Members often rally their neighbors to make a difference on a grand scale, too – like Trilogy at Redmond Ridge Member and president of Trilogy for Kids, June Bruno, who recently organized a book drive to benefit children in the Seattle area.
At Trilogy – You’re not alone in your desire to give back during this season of your life! One of the many amazing things about living at Trilogy is the ease with which you can get involved. Each Trilogy community offers a range of activities and clubs, including service groups. A few examples:
- At Trilogy at Monarch Dunes, the Trilogy Service Club has more than 70 members. Together, these neighbors help local nonprofits and have a great time doing it.
- Also at Trilogy at Monarch Dunes, Project SHARE helps neighbors in need with everything from rides to doctor’s appointments to offering a listening ear to neighbors going through difficult times.
- At Encanterra, the Community Service League organizes awesome events that raise goods and services for nonprofit organizations in the community. The Glow Golf Tournament raised funds for First Tee of Phoenix, and the annual school Christmas ornament donation tree, Alzheimer’s Walk, and other activities benefit a variety of organizations in need.
These are just a few examples, but there are more wonderful service and volunteer clubs throughout Trilogy communities.
It’s rewarding to get involved in your community for a lot of reasons, and Trilogy is all about bringing people together in fun and unique ways. So, if you have a goal of exploring new things as you start this new chapter of your life, you’ll feel right at home at Trilogy. There are countless ways to have fun and discover new passions, including many that better the world around you at the same time. Now that’s a win-win!
